At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

John reiterates his warning that Governor Nicholson will only delay payments, and he cautions his father not to give him any papers. John discusses the payments that he is due as well, and mentions plans to travel to Great Britain with Samuel Vetch and John Borland in the near future. Docketed on address leaf.
