Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Van Slyk testifies that Mr. Cuyler told him that it is not within the Governor's power to grant Robert Livingston the power to choose assessors and collectors to assess the inhabitants of the Manor. Signed with van Slyk's mark. This is followed by a similar testimony given and signed by David Salisbury, 22 March 1716.
