Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Bampfeild writes that his position as Agent of New York has been terminated, for reasons that he is not aware. He also discusses some trading matters with Indians that require some assistance, and asks Livingston to turn to another person to sort out the matter of a patent for his son.
