Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Robert offers his cousin assistance in dealing with some possible trouble from the tenants of the Manor of Livingston. He promises to travel to the Manor, and in the mean time advises Robert, Jr. not to give up anything, and to round up the most dangerous individuals and send them to Albany Jail.
