Written by Commodore Badger to representatives of the Nelson Company. References their letter of 19 August in which they asked Badger for a photograph for an illustrated article they desire to print. Says he is away from home and cannot comply to their request. There is a place written on the document, but it is illegible.
Oscar Charles Badger was a commodore in the United States Navy who served in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War.Born in Connecticut, Badger was appointed Midshipman in 1841. He took an active part in the Mexican and Civil Wars and was frequently commended in the dispatches. Commodore Badger retired in August 1885 and died in 1899. Commodore Badger was related to Secretary of the Navy George E. Badger (1790–1865). He was followed in the naval service by his son, Rear Admiral Charles J. Badger (1853–1932), and grandson, Admiral Oscar C. Badger II (1890–1958).
