At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Replies to previous correspondence from Rand. Informs Rand he served as Governor of the Idaho Territory 17 September 1871- 4 December 1875, and left his post to take a seat in Congress. Written on House of Representatives stationery.

Bennett served as a Congressional Delegate from the Idaho Territory 1875-1876.
