Transmits a note written by his father, Senator William Pitt Fessenden. Relates that it is the only letter he has with William's full signature, as William signed many personal letters with initials.
Francis Fessenden was a Union General in the Civil War and Mayor of Portland, Maine in 1876. William Pitt Fessenden was a United States Representative from Maine 1841-1842 and Senator 1853-1870.
