Informs his parents that "the doctor does not yet know of my absence...the clerk assistant ward Master and Watchman were the only one that knew of it." Speaks of the Thanksgiving dinner and decoration preparations. Written on stationery with "US Army General Hospital, Newton University, Baltimore" letterhead.
Robert Terry enlisted on 4 June 1861 as a Private. He was mustered into "K" Co. PA 36th Infantry. He was discharged on 27 April 1865.

Dear. Father & Mother,
I take this opportunity of writing a few lines to both of you, to let you know I arrived here safe and [8c], the doctor yet does not yet know of my absence. and I dont think he will know it. The clerk assistant ward master and watchman were the only one that knew of it. It is likely the steward knowed it but he has not said a word to me about being away. None of them Blame me for going and I am right side up again came in yesterday morning about 6 o clock and commenced doing my work as if nothing happened. I. have been very busy to day and yesterday.

I am a going out to see Mr Peregry to night for I got a little Bill of $3.50 to pay him They are making great preparations here for thanksgiving dinner. Decorating off the dining Rooms with flaggs 8c.
The weather has been good these last 2 days but is clouding up again. 8c. Give my best respects to all my Relatins and friends and 8c. and excuse the writing for I in a hurry to get this out with todays mails and this is all the leisure time I get now.
