Writes that he arrived back to camp with the supplies much earlier than expected. The regiment has been given orders to march the next morning and rumor has it that they are traveling 6-8 miles down the river to Berlin.

P Valley Md. Sat. Eveng Dear All, Octo. 25 Arrived home safely this morning & found that I was not expected for several days. The officer who had had the most experience in transporting baggage & the most dealings with Government officials had told the major that if I was back in ten days I should be smart I was only four. we started from Washington at 12 at night - the night after I wrote you - Thursday. Were packed in the old freight car from Thursday night until this - Saturday morning. Found your good long letter of the 17th - mailed the 20th - waiting for me. Have been too busy to write to day & tomorrow we have orders to march - always something to break up the Sabbath - we are to be inspected in full marching dress & I presume start as soon as that is over. It is reported, whether correctly or not I dont know, - that we go only about six or eight miles down the River on the Virginia side to Berlin. I am sure we cant find a colder place than this short of Greenland's icy mountains. Sunday morning Well & packing. We fall in at 8 o' clock.
