Near Warrington Juunction Nov. 17, 1862 Dear All, Arrived here last night after a very long & tedious march & we are off again to day I suppose. I have just taken from my trunk what things are absolutely necessary - a couple of shirts, one thick & one thin - all I have except what's on my back - and I am going to send the trunk home, as we can send from here. I shall carry nothing except blankets & a small bag. I should purchase a valise if I could but can't - perhaps you can send me a cheap one by Lieut Shepard if he ever comes on. I presume you have sent the shirts by mail. I can take care of them when they arrive. Recd yours of 4th 5th & 6th with the two 50c & the $5. Very kind. Twas very acceptable & will last quite a while as we can't buy anything to eat even as far as we have seen lately. Our rations lately have been pork & army bread. We have beef to day. We remained at camp near Gaskins mill just one week. Now we are on the march again - we shall get fresh beef as that follows us on the hoof. Dont know when we can get Miss Greene box. Major ward says send to Washington, to be called for & there we can order it when we get where it will do us any good. Direct to major ward, not to Dr Storrs lest he should replenish his wardrobe at the soldiers expense. Best love. Am very well indeed. Weather has been very pleasant but I think full as cold as you have as the trees have been bare some time. I sleep warm & get on finely as possible. Was not Genl Burnside's order a fine one on assuming command. (third page vertical) Genl Sumner now commands our Grand Division - the - right - of the Grand Army - composed of the 2d & 9th Corps - Genl wilcox commands us - the 9th corps and Genl Getty commands the 3d division of 9th corps - - our Division - & to finish all Col Harland commands the 2d Brigade, 3d Division 9th A Corps 1st (Right) Grand Division - Gen Hooker commands center Grand Division Gen Franklin left Grand Division & Genl Seigel the Reserve - I have been on a court martial all the time we were at Gaskins Mills. So I could not answer Mr Arms letter shall do it first thing when I can get at ink & paper. Best Love Chas
