Writes a short letter to say that they have arrived at Newport News. Expects that this is a rendezvous point and does not anticipate a long stay.

Barracks, Newport News, Monday, A M, Feby 9 '63 Dear All, I was so sorry that I could not get off my letter yesterday. We had no communication with the Fortress after I finished it & soon steamed off to this place. The afternoon was spent in cleaning out the barracks - log buildings the openings between the logs filled with mud - and building bunks, stopping up the windows & doors. No news to write - this place is only used as our rendezvous I presume & we may leave here any day, I think very soon & I also think we are to go to the Carolinas & under our General B. Direct letters for present to 9th corps - not Army of Potomac. There are about a dozen officers in this building & it is noisy enough. Very best love Your affect son & bro Chas
