Writes that he is in command of a picket of 50 men. He does not believe there is any reason to be afraid of attack as they have been withdrawing their forces during the day.

Thursday evening
Dear All, Am very well & am in command of a picket of 2 officers & 50 men stationed on an island in the Nansemond River. I do not think we have any thing farther to fear from the enemy. I think their day is over. I think they have been withdrawing their forces during the day Best love Chas.
