He writes that the U.S.G. has a new leader and that he had to give up his horse. He requests hair oil and sends sewing silk.

Camp, Monday after dinner
I travel on foot hereafter. U.S.G. has a new master from to day. My horse was turned over to the Brigade Quarter master this morning. I had became very much attached to him & shall greatly miss my rides. Am using the cologone you sent but as a preventative rather than a cure. Am very well. Do remember me to all Norwich friends. Love to uncle Geo & Aunt Mary - sorry they are to lose their pleasant boarding place. I am very anxious to know what you will do but can offer no suggestions for I dont even know what I would wish you to do. I write with you in liking the New Haven friends very much. I did pass several pleasant months there. I shall never forget them. Best love - Affct son & bro Chas. (back, George?) If I go to Southport I shall be back here the latter part of the week which I think will be about the time you will be here do write just your plans - E Clapp will be at home the middle of the week I should think you want white sewing silk for sewing the silver braid - so I send this altho' it is not silver - I want you to get two bottles of hair oil for me of caucin grease - I will write to her about it and for Mrs Hotchkiss Do stay at Mrs Goddards a day or two - they expect you -
