Dear Sam:
Your letter recd. I am glad to hear that I am so soon to see Willie. Now come this week if you can - I am going to Manassas on Saturday to 18th to look over the battlefield. I want to notify Fount & Hal when you will be here. I doubt now if Osborne ever knew that Fount was a friend of mine & with our command. Because Fount wd. not condescend to beg to keep in office is no evidence that he was in different about staying in. Well, Woodrow will not stay in the White House longer than this term. He must then go back to teaching school. Suppose you & Willie will stop with Miss Nellie. I shall tell her that you are coming. I sent Hood a message that he might have made an exception in your case or you were a Confederate ? but you keep your office & that 99 per cent of his constituents wd. have not only approved but applauded it.
