Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Contains descriptions of Utah during the years he was stationed there. The date of composition has been inferred from the manuscript and Moore's death in 1907; the Civil War appears to be noted in the past tense.

Moore was an army surgeon on duty during the Utah War, 1857-1861.
