Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

He describes his tour through Europe. He is sorry to report that all of his Texas bonds are to be collected at once, ceasing all interest and principal.

John B. Moore was an army surgeon during the Utah War and the Civil War and was later named U.S. Surgeon General.

Kelly is Moore's niece, the daughter of Mary Moore Kelly.
