Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Author inferred through content. Both Sarah and Claude intend to write him by the same mail. A land deal between Mr. Scott and Mr. Taylor has gone bad. Mr. Taylor claims that the land falls short one-third of the area that he agreed to buy. The end of the letter is missing.
