Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes that he and Toby are going to Switzerland in September. He justifies the trip by stating that the universities in Switzerland are as good as those in Germany and French is spoken there "even better than in Paris." They intend to go to Paris next year. The bottom of the page has been cut with some loss of text.
