Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Meserve sends Dr. Warren of the Lincoln National Life Foundation two prints of Lincoln that he believes may have been made from the same negative. One of the prints (5111.01 #626), Meserve #86, is with the letter. See GLC 5111.01.0627.
