Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Also signed by Holmes Weaver. Deposition describing the naval actions at the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812, focusing on Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry and Captain Jesse D. Elliot. Claims that on the 10th of September, 1813, Elliot "did not do his duty" and Perry attempted to "screen Capt. Elliot from the injurious impressions made by his conduct." With a certification of oath by Justice of the Peace Weaver. At the Battle of Lake Erie, Stevens commanded the sloop Trippe.
