Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

He says it might be wise for the mission to withdraw from Turkey because it is so "unsettled." He wonders whether the converts are sincere or only interested in financial gain. He wants Ed to pick a career. His plans have been impeded by lack of time and his "buttinskyness." He thinks he will soon leave for the states and is interested in real estate. He has paid close attention to hygiene and stuck to a diet of cereals, fruits, and vegetables.
