Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Hale's views on religion, the state of the Unitarian church, and what can be done about it though missionary work. He also corrects an article George--a fellow Unitarian clergyman--wrote about him and the Unitarian Church. Hale disassociates the Unitarian Church from organizations like the Roman or Baptist churches.
