Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Tolstoy writes that he received several of Herron's books and will start reading "The Christian State" in the hopes that it will induce him to read them all. When he is finished he will write a letter with his opinion of the book (see GLC05508.245.02).
