Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

[Dated Wednesday, 7, 1891. Only in the months of January and October did the 7th fall on a Wednesday. October seems the more likely choice since Annie states the weather is still nice and makes no mention of their anniversary which would have been Jan. 7.] re: Bringing some of her things if he comes to visit, and she pleads him to stay married to her.
