Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Order calling "the attention of the Regimental and Company Officers, to those portions of the Army Regulations defining their duties in regard to providing for the health and comfort of their men, and maintaining a close inspection over the messing arrangements." Order issued by McClellan, signed by Marcy, and signed in print by Granger.

Randolph B. Marcy was George McClellan's chief of staff, and his father in law.
