At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Colonel Randolph orders Lieutenant A. J. Poole (possibly either Allen or Adam Poole) to report, with his detachment of the Reserve Corps, to Captain S. L. Slack, Enrolling Officer of Claiborne Parish at Homer, Louisiana. Appears to be signed by P. M. Tennison, 1st Lieutenant Acting Adjutant.
