Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Updates Hobart with news. Indicates that "Elihu has an expectation of eventually reducing all his property" and that Wilkes Wood has been appointed Judge Thomas' successor.

Jared Whitman graduated from Brown University in 1805 and was admitted to bar in 1808, he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1827-8), the state senate (1839-41), a commissioner of Plymouth County (1828-34), and a delegate to the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention (1853).
