Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writing on behalf of William Pincers and Frances Joscelyn, Hobart reports mistakes in making their schedules, possibly for tax purposes or Revolutionary War benefits. Explains the adjustments that need to be made to the record to reflect the property held by each man. Pincers, he explains, is a veteran in need of obtaining aid.
