Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Resolution submitted by Pickman and copy issued by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, Alden Bradford. The state was seeking $11,000 remuneration for defense expenses from "the late war," probably the War of 1812. The date refers to its approval by the state legislature. Sent with a circular letter discussing the resolution (see GLC06313.134).
