At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Manuscript copy of the treaty made on 18 February 1833 between the Ottawa chiefs "residing on the Indian Reserves on the Miami of Lake Erie" and George B. Porter, the United States commissioner. Outlines the cession of Ottawa land in Ohio, the establishment of a reservation, and the remuneration that will be owed. Probably a working draft prior to sending to printer.
