At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Concerns the cession of Menomonie land in Wisconsin, their removal, and the remuneration they will receive. Authorized by President Franklin Pierce. Treaty arranged by Francis Huebschmann, Superintendent of Indian Affairs, and the leaders of the Menomonee on 12 May 1854 (and ratified on 2 August 1854).
