Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Instructs Baldwin to comply with the enclosed Congressional act ordering that a list of all federal salaries be compiled by the Treasury Department. Baldiwn's reply on verso states that he has complied and enclosed "statements of my fees and expenses."

Simeon Baldwin was clerck of federal District and Circuit Courts of Connecticut and also a Congressman from Connecticut and mayor of New Haven.
