Dearest -
Hello - Whew what a day we had yesterday- hot as hell - hat is it was hot - everywhere but at Sheepshead Bay as I got off the train and then it became cooler and cooler as I neared home - you remember - I am sure - Well I had planned to go to the Beauty Parlor for a hair cut but was unable to get an appointment. So I went home - worn out with the heat - and lo and behold I get home and get your letters of Thursday and Friday only to learn you are freezing - it seemed fantastic - we who have shared everything suddenly seemed at opposite ends of the earth - and I suddenly started to miss you more than ever - You certainly are being put through your press - My God what a schedule of walking, marching, rain, and general feet aching - Oh my darling - I wish I could have shared part of your discomfort - and I am so glad that you let yourself he picked up by that truck - Gee I hope you get enough sleep in your BED to rest you for next week - I cannot possibly imagine why they put limited service men through such difficult phases - It seems that you actually have received as much of 3 month basic as anybody who is in the regular service - You once mentioned that there were a few men who limped in your outfit - what do they do with them? But anyway sweets I think you are marvelous to be able to go through with it - with the fortitude that you have shown - I only hope that you will feel alright at the end of it - and not so dog tired that it will take ages to recuperate in terms of sleep - because I know how much you need that sleep - Dearest - I want to tell you too that if it is just too much to get my letters off, please don't make that special effort - I would rather a million times that you use the time to rest -
As for. that fireplace- I could see you sitting there and roasting yourself sell - letting your body absorb the relaxing heat - as. we did at Wildmere --
Well tonight I go to Ann's house if Leslie can make it - I expect to call Ann this afternoon to learn whether he can get off - I am surelooking [sic] forward to seeing him and hearing him tell us of what he has gone thru - Ann has arranged to have that English girl Hilda over as company for Les - so if he can make it - it should be a nice evening -which I will tell you about.
Oh yes went to Mom (mine) last night and learned that MildredGoldsmith's (the G'S) husband is at Salem Air Base - I don't remember his name - And also that Mildred is there in town staying at a hotel -
When Mad and I got home we had a real old fashioned thunder and blitz storm - at about 1 A.M. when it started to come down heavy I became frightened for my little tomato plants which I was sure would not be able to stand the on-slaught. So I got up - put on coat and rubbers - took an unbrella [sic] and flashlight - and took the tops of the beach charis and some tins cans and covered the plans. I could not cover all of them though. However when I came out this morning I found the plant still sturdy - Gee I hope they take -
Well - things are still doing poorly with the Solomons and Sid has expressed the desire to enlist if that were possible - the dope trying to run away from one kind of responsibility to another kind - doesn't he know there is really no running away - Anyway he can't enlist - He did get his dependency questionnaire - and seemed very about it - of course all it it means is that they are really after the Daddy's now - It never occurs to him to try to get into a War industry - and when U mentioned this to Tillie in Dorines presence - said - "Oh - he's too lazy" (remark evidently heard from family - But anyway Sid is still helping in the garden - and water every day (when there is no rain) of course God is very good to Sid and he has not had to do it too often.
Well - darling I guess I will have to get to work - I am now trying to write in the morning so that I can use the typewriter - somehow I feel that it is difficult to read my handwriting -

How did Mike E and the other Boys get through the Biv - Will you know anything about your future after this Biv stuff is over - Gee I hope so -
Well darling there goes my very nice Supervisor indicating that a meeting has been arranged for a change -
So darling - I must say good morning - afternoon - and evening allin [sic] one -
So dearest never forget for a moment that I am right behind you in every thing that you are doing - and that I love you so much that it really hurts sometime - A Kiss - I gave you several last night and really remembered this morning that I dreamt of you last night - I felt the flavor of your presence this morning -
Love - Love - Love - Love
And my very best to the Boys - you can tell them that I am in a way behind them too - and Hope they get through O.K
The same Stuff - You know -
