At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One pamphlet entitled, "Resolution Of The 'Liga Patriotica', A Civil Organization Of The City Of Manila, Philippine Islands," dated July 29, 1935. The message concerns the independence of the Philippine Islands. A resolution was sent to the United States government thanking them for the support in establishing a commonwealth and the enacting of the Tydings-McDuffie Act.

The Tydings–McDuffie Act is a United States federal law that established the process for the Philippines, then an American colony, to become an independent country after a ten-year transition period.
