At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One issue of the New-Hampshire Patriot & State Gazette dated June 13, 1820. Newspaper contains advertisements, proclamations by President James Monroe, and auctions. The proclamations concern the selling of government land in the district of Detroit, as well as land in Oho, Illinois, Arkansas, Alabama, Missouri, and Indiana.
