At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Full title: The American military Pocket Atlas; being an approved collection of correct maps, both general and particular, of the British colonies, Especially those which now are, or probably may be the Theatre of War; taken principally from the actual survey and judicious observation of engineers De Brahm and Roman; Cook, Jackson, and Collet, Maj.
