Herbert C. Conner was born in 1916 in Millport, Lamar County, Alabama. At the age of 24, he had completed at least 6th grade. Before World War II, he worked as a farm hand. He enlisted on February 7, 1942 at Ft. McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia. During the war, he served in the Army Branch of Warrant Officers and worked as a cook. He was deployed in the South Pacific. He was not married, and had no dependents. Conner died in 1944 while serving abroad. He is buried at Payne Chapel Cemetery, which is located in Millport, Alabama.
