At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Cosigned by Harding's wife Florence. Countersigned by Charles F. Pace and Eugene Colwell as witnesses. Pace signs twice as Notary Public of the United States Senate. Also signed by Auditor Harry E. Mason, citing the 6 April 1918 transfer of this document. The Hardings release their interest in the Harding Publishing Company, located in Marion, Ohio, for the sum of one dollar.
