At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Millie Livingston (Robert's Sister) writes to pass on the news of the deaths of James and William Livingston. She also writes to quell Robert's anxieties about the living conditions for young Robert, who with the death of his uncles would stay with Millie. Docketed on address leaf.
