Calling captains back to their companies. Written in the third person. Pencil note added later identifies recipient as Carey A. Harris, which is incorrect.
According to the Papers of Andrew Jackson, the recipient of this letter is Secretary of War Lewis Cass, not Carey A. Harris. Jackson authorized Harris to act as interim Secretary of War on 29 April 1836, after this note was written. Harris also served as interim Secretary of War briefly in 1835. In March 1836, Cass was in Washington sending and receiving correspondence. Even if Harris was acting as Secretary of War on the day this was written, Jackson would not have addressed him as "Secretary of War." See GLC05722.03, where Harris is addressed as "acting Secretary of War."

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
