Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Addressed to "Gentlemen of the Council: Mr. Speaker; and Gentlemen of the House of Representatives." Begins by mentioning the tranquil state of public affairs in the state. Addresses the issue of improving manufacturing and agriculture. Briefly mentions taxes and other issues pertinent to the state. With corrections.

Samuel Huntington was a delegate to the Continental Congress from Connecticut and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was governor of Connecticut at the time of this speech and served from 1786 until his death.
