My dear Mother,
I received your kind & affectionate letter yesterday evening. The first one for some time, I was afraid you were sick or something of the kind. I have not received the money letters yet, perhaps will get them next week. I have not heard from Uncle John lately. What has become of Uncle Stephan? You did not mention him in any of your letters. If John & Lyddy with you yet, & what become of Frank. I wish I could get a parole this winter & come home, but it seems that I can't see you even for a few minutes. I have been a little unwell for the last few days suffering with a headache but expect it will be better when the weather gets a little cooler. Best love to Father, Uncle George & all the rest & believe me as ever your affect. Son,
Edward.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
