Writes, "I received last post a number of papers from our mutual friend James Swan Esq. relative to an acct with a Mr. Campbell who fled from N York to this place, & was persued [sic] by a [Colo] McGregor & confin'd in this Goal, but is now in your City under Custody of the Sheriff from this City. I suppose he obtain'd this favor from Colo McGregor in order to bring his affairs to a settlement, its probable you may have heard Mr Swan speak of him. I shall be much oblidged [sic] (as will Mr Swan) by your delivering the papers to an attorney in order (if possible) to obtain the ballance [sic] which is [L83.10], the friendship existing between you & Mr Swan, I presume will be sufficient to appologize [sic] for the Liberty I take in addressing you."
