Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Two parts. First note from Jean-Baptiste de la Roche requesting Henry Knox to pay Mr. Duplaine $16.77 for him. Dated New York 10 April 1792. The second note verifies that the previous note was the actual handwriting and signature of de la Roche, signed and dated by Louis Osmont, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 17 May 1792. Includes a signature from Duplaine on the verso.
