Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Three notes of receipt. The first dated 16 June 1803 signed by Bradstreet Wiggins for $10. The second dated 18 July 1803, signed by Nathaniel Robinson for $44 and change on behalf of Wiggins. The last, written on the verso, is dated 23 December 1802 from Thomaston for $53. Signed by Knox, but the signature is struck.
