At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Most of the document is in Henry Knox's handwriting. Noted as a copy. Henry Knox, Samuel Winslow, and Isaac Winslow request Ulmer gather information on lands near Belfast, Maine. Provides instructions to Ulmer regarding land settlements and surveying the land.

It is unclear whether the Isaac Winslow of this document is the younger Isaac (1763-1806), who is Samuel's brother, or their elder cousin (1743-ca. 1792/3)."
