[Excerpt:]
I approve of your sending me some fuzes [sic], rockets and tubes of your making, for a trial; and shall rely upon those which you shall make in future being conformable to the directions I shall give you. I request that you will turn your whole strength to making fuzes for the 9 inch French mortars, that is equal nearly to the English 10 inch. Inform me how many you can make a week.
Inform Col. Mason that I have applied to Col Pickering for an order on the Q. M. at Springfield for a waggon to carry his baggage. When I receive the order I shall forward it. Also, inform Capt Hawes that I have no influence to effect his establishment, agreeably to what he requested my Brother. Were it in my power I should fix him immediately.
