Lillie, John (1755-1801)
Autograph letter signed
Title: to Henry Knox
Explains and apologizes for not writing in a while as he was in France and quite busy. Discusses earnings he made from the vessels he sent to the West Indies from Georgia. Notes his profits were not as great as he expected, but, "on the whole.... my circumstances are as eligible as my brother Officers in general in this quarter." Discusses the office of excise and asks if it would be all right to write to George Washington concerning a position in that office.
