Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Copy of a court order with a list of when this was received by whom and when. States that by "our Sovereign Lord Charles, by the Grace of God, King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith" that gold and silver should be used for the "planting, ruling ordering and governing of New England in America - " This first portion is dated 1629, with the following parts indicating the dates of receipt and whom received it.
