At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 70,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. Summary of Content: Currency pieces numbered 11282, 11284, 11287, 11291, 11294 (all signed by B. Payne) and 19157 (signed by G. Wyllys). On the verso of each is written "Regd E Colt." Indicates that by order of the Connecticut Assembly on 19 June 1776 the notes shall be redeemable from the treasury on 1 January 1782.
